Packing for a Heli-Fishing Expedition
Weight is everything on a heli day. The aircraft has a hard limit, the weather makes its own plans, and the nearest shop is an hour of flight time away. Here is exactly how we pack.
We provide
Rods, reels, flies, waders, boots, rain shells, lunch, satellite comms, first aid, and bear deterrents. If it keeps you safe or catches fish, it is already on the aircraft.
You carry
A single 20-liter dry bag: base layer, warm mid-layer, wool socks, buff, polarized sunglasses with a retainer, sunscreen, and any personal medication. Wear sturdy boots you can wade in — one pair for the whole day.
Stays at basecamp
Hard coolers, extra rods "just in case," cotton anything, and drones — alpine basins are no-fly zones for them, and the fish prefer it that way.
Show up with your dry bag and a appetite for altitude. We handle the rest, including the mountain lunch stop you'll talk about for years.
